Get ready for Movember

Every November, people around the world join the Movember movement to support and raise awareness for men’s health.

Movember helps to raise funds for the biggest health issues affecting men:

  • Prostate cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Mental health and suicide prevention

You don’t have to grow a moustache to take part in Movember—you could host a Mo-ment or get Mo-ving. However if you do choose to grow a mo, here are some dos and don’ts of preparing for, and looking after, your future face furniture.

DO: Start Movember with a clean-shaven face

Once you’ve registered on the Movember website, you must remember to start the challenge with a clean-shaven face… otherwise you’re cheating!

Make sure you moisturise and look after your skin so you have a great starting point for growing your moustache. Your new lip rug will probably attract some attention, so by looking after your skin you can ensure you’ll be looking your best at all times.

New to the skincare game? No worries, we’ve got you covered! Altr London have a great range of skincare and cosmetics designed especially for men’s skin—which is generally, thicker, tougher and oilier than women’s skin. And right now you can get 15% off with Youth Discount if you’re an apprentice or student.

DON’T: Grow a beard

It’s against Movember rules to grow a beard or goatee as well as your moustache! Remember, you want your moustache to stand out by itself.

You might want to invest in an electric razor to help you stay neat and groomed. Check out these ones from Unineed, where you can get 10% off with Youth Discount.

DO: Aim for a certain style

Whether you’re going for long or short, bushy or neat, it’s great to have a style to aim for. Why not try one of Movember’s style suggestions below? Our personal favourite is The Abrakadabra!

DON’T: Keep touching your moustache

Your moustache can be a breeding ground for bacteria as it traps oils and dirt, so although it might be tempting to keep touching your new furry face friend, your fingers will be adding to the oil and bacteria. This can get into your pores and could cause ingrown hairs and spots.

DO: Comb and condition your moustache

Facial hair can draw moisture away from the skin, so it’s important to keep your moustache and the surrounding skin hydrated. Invest in a beard oil or moisturiser to keep your skin and moustache in top condition.

An oil will also help to tame your moustache when you’re grooming. Add a moustache or beard comb and styling wax to your kit and use them daily to train the hairs of your moustache into place.

If you look after your moustache well and keep to your daily washing, moisturising, waxing and combing routine, you can make sure your moustache is in prime condition to grow to its full potential.
