8. Bonfire Night, Ottery St Mary, Devon

If you fancy something a bit different, then this is definitely the event for you. Instead of a huge fireworks display like London and Cardiff, Ottery St Mary offers the chance to witness an English tradition that pre-dates the regular Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night and may even hark back to pagan traditions of frightening away evil spirits. Local residents run through the street carrying flaming barrels, which have been covered in tar and set alight. This one isn’t for the faint-hearted!

9. Bonfire Night Celebrations, Lewes, East Sussex

Looks can be deceiving, as the small town of Lewes transforms into a massive, pagan-esque festival every Bonfire Night. Burning effigies of political figures are paraded through the town, along with burning crosses to represent the burning of the martyrs of Lewes in the 16th century. Moreover, huge bonfires are lit on the hills surrounding the town. This Bonfire Night celebration is definitely an event you don’t want to miss!

10. After Dark Fireworks Spectacular, Don Valley Bowl, Sheffield

This is another huge Bonfire Night event, with over 20,000 people attending. As well as watching the amazing fireworks, you can enjoy the funfair, food, face-painting and fire spinners. The firework display starts at 9pm and is set to music.
