Autumn 2019 film releases to look forward to already

When the sunshine leaves it tends to feel like there’s not much left to get excited about, but that couldn’t be further from the truth this year thanks to all the upcoming film releases we’re being spoiled with. Check out our list of some of the biggest and best films coming to cinemas this autumn that you can get excited about right now…

IT: Chapter Two

Release date: 6th September

The loser club will be back on our screens this autumn to face the terrifying evil entity that is ‘It’ for a second time. However, this time around they are far from the teenagers we met a few years back, instead this sequel takes place 27 years later as these now fully grown adults must return to Derry and put an end to It’s reign of terror for once and all.


Release date: 4th October

With so many superhero films hitting our screens every month it’s going to be quite refreshing to explore the routes of one of DC’s most notorious villains. Joker is set to be a harrowing watch as it takes us through Arthur Fleck’s descent into madness. There are big expectations weighing on the shoulders of actor, Joaquin Phoenix with the bar set extremely high thanks to Heath Ledger’s legendary performance in Dark Knight.


Release date: 4th October

This biopic of one of the Hollywood greats, Judy Garland is sure to impress. The film is set in 1969, thirty years after the release of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ which shot Judy into stardom. Judy’s life in front of the cameras was tumultuous at best and the actress and singer endured great hardship and struggles with addiction which ended in her tragic early death.

Zombieland 2

Release date: 18th October

It’s the season for sequels that’s for sure and we can’t get enough because it means a good old catch up with some of our favourite characters. Zombieland 2 follows on from the events of the first film and as you might have already guessed, the team have more zombies to fight off and more danger to avoid!

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

Release date: 18th October

The exploration into the background of villains has become a really fascinating avenue for the film industry to explore. After the roaring success of the first Maleficent, it comes as no surprise that Disney asked Angelina Jolie to reprise her role in the sequel. This story explores Maleficent’s actions after learning of Aurora’s engagement.

Terminator: Dark Fate

Release date: 25th October

Fans of the original Terminator will be screaming with happiness knowing that Arnold Schwarzegger and Linda Hamilton will be returning to their iconic roles of Terminator and Sarah Connor in this latest addition to the franchise. You can expect action galore and hopefully more killer one-liners that can be quoted for the next 30 years.

Doctor Sleep

Release date: 7th November

If you’re a Stephen King fan then this autumn is a true gift just for you. Not only is It returning but a sequel to The Shining is also coming to the cinema. Doctor Sleep follows an adult Danny just about coping with the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook hotel until he meets Abra, a teenager who shares his abilities known as the ‘shine’.

Last Christmas

Release date: 15th November

I know, it’s mad to be thinking about Christmas films right now but I’m afraid the movie studios have already got them all lined up so it’s got to be addressed. Who doesn’t love a good Christmas rom-com and this one even has Game of Thrones star, Emilia Clarke taking on one of the main roles. Get to ugly cry and route for happily ever after.

Frozen 2

Release date: 22nd November

Putting their sisterly bond to the test for again, Disney has got another adventure in store for Elsa and Anna. All of the favourites from the OG cast are set to be apart of this new release, including the much-loved magic snowman, Olaf! Get your Frozen merch ready and buy your tickets early before all those pesky little kids who this film is apparently aimed at.

Charlie’s Angels

Release date: 29th November

The reboot of the Charlie’s Angels franchise is much anticipated by fans. With Kirsten Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska taking on the three main roles of ass-kicking assassins ready to save the world. The stunts look impressive as hell and the spy gear will fill you envy which is exactly what you want.
